Case study

Atelier North

A refined digital presence for a modern architecture practice.

Overview

The brief: a Kuala Lumpur architecture practice designing homes and small civic buildings. The site needed to present a body of work with the same restraint the studio brings to its buildings.

Design challenge

Architecture portfolios often bury the work under heavy navigation and long text. The studio’s projects are image-led, so the site had to get out of the way while still giving clients the information they need: the brief, the location, the year and the team.

Design direction

A quiet grid of stone and charcoal, a classical serif for project names and generous margins. Each project opens on a single large image with a short, factual caption. The layout follows the proportions of a drawing sheet.

  • Limestone#EEEBE5
  • Concrete#B9B4AB
  • Charcoal#23221F

Serif display for project names, a neutral sans for captions and data.

Website screens

Mobile screens

The layout was designed for phones from the start, not squeezed down afterwards. Navigation, key actions and the most important content sit within easy reach.

Key features

  • Project index

Every project in one sortable list, by year, type or location.

  • Image-led case studies

Full-width photography with factual captions and a short project brief.

  • Enquiry by project type

A contact form that asks what kind of building the client is planning.

Final result

A five-page site that feels as considered as the buildings it shows, fast on mobile and straightforward for the studio to keep up to date.
